While Corps Badges of varying grades, materials, and features were available to all, this type of badge is most associated with the common enlisted man. Not all troops were able to get the issued item but their popularity was quite widespread owing to a cottage industry for production. From the wool felt example for the fellow of more humble means ranging to jewelry grade metals and the velvet bullion edged often purchased by both Officers and enlisted men. The regulation placement notwithstanding, with many wanting them affixed on items including hats, caps, coats, even canteen covers, the industry made a fair profit from the ranks to the staff and field.<\/p>\n
