A documented type, simple common writing pen, with the correct diameter shaft. Seen in several references, documented in sales\/manufacturing records, and copied from several originals we have handled over the years. Most of the pens on the market are either too bulky and thick, the incorrect style, or too fancy. We started making this pen about 20 years ago when we got frustrated with what was available and have made them ever since. The simple rolled and crimped nib holding design is the exact same as seen on pens, even those of higher grades made of gold, etc., currently on display in the Steamboat Arabia collection. (they are easily crimped to hold firm almost any nib) Ours copies the original common, “throw away” utility pens of the era made of thin gauge tinned brass and common hardwood, and are very rare to find as they were simply used up.\u00a0 We have been lucky enough to find a few – several in documented and identified lapdesks, field desks, etc. To be sure many a soldier carried a nice pen in his kit – but this is the ticket for the common soldier consuming Sutler’s goods. Simple 1\/4″ round wood shaft first oil dyed in either black, red, and now the much awaited and documented orange, then each shaft is seal coated with varnish. (these three shaft and related ink colors are also documented with specific military use) We have also placed a copy of a little paper patent label we found with one of our original examples on each pen. Now comes ready to go with a Hunt’s 512 nib or equivalent,<\/em><\/span> and an extra plain common nib, or replace with the nib of your choice.<\/p>\n
