Representing another one of the most common caps of the day, popular for decades before the war and after. Many, many wartime photos show men and boys of all ages, demographics, occupations, ethnicity, and geographic regions employing this hat to cover their noggin. Photos are extant which include soldiers in camp on both sides, teamsters, newspaper men, sutlers, artists, etc., wearing it as well. This is a couple of steps down from our “Mechanics” wheel hat and “Workman’s” caps that have the high-grade leather visor, stiff reinforced frame, leather sweatband, etc. Made from lightweight wool and cotton corduroy. There is no reinforced frame and the sweat band is made of black cotton. (a thin leather one could be sewn directly in if so desired, but research shows cloth is historically accurate as well for this type simple cap) The interior is lined in woven checked cotton and is labeled for a documented wartime dealer out of Saint Louis. The color and pattern of the lining will vary based on what we had in stock. A simple true “cap” with the more economic sweatband and visor pattern and a smaller pancake body, low crown without stiffener or form. I have worn one for years around the farm and shop and occasionally in camp.\u00a0 In practice these cloth banded hats have a good bit of give and can be rather easily stretched from 1\/8 to 1\/4 larger size than marked without damage. Please be sure of your proper head size when ordering. Due to these being old new stock, what is listed is what we have, then no more. I think we sold them back then (some 15 years ago) for about $30-32 each.
