Made in the same basic pattern as our wool mechanic’s cap, completed in a tight weave lightweight vulcanized cotton. This is a very comfortable weight material with a finish comparable to an original enameled oil cloth cap we examined and identical to a piece of original vulcanized material in our collection. We are very excited to offer it with these caps. The visor is in the curved front style, similar to the army’s McDowell pattern, and made of stout leather, machine sewn in with an applied sewn leather edge. Each cap is lined in appropriate period material either natural muslin or black or brown cotton. (our choice, no custom orders) These caps are seen in period photos with side buttons and chin straps complete with buckles, with faux ornamental visor straps and buttons and with nothing at all. Vulcanized caps are seen in pre-war and wartime period photos, posed and otherwise, worn by tradesman of all sorts, boatman, dock workers, teamsters, militia, soldiers of both sides,\u00a0 ruffian and respectable, just like the wool versions and are appropriate for such use in addition to the popular Fraternal\/Political organization application. These hats do not represent in any manner any modern political movements which may be utilizing any historical monikers. As with our mechanics cap, they are shipped with the pictured functional chin strap with buckle, and a pair of side buttons unattached<\/span>,<\/em><\/strong> so the customer can determine the desired look.\u00a0 \u00a0(photos may show our vulcanized rubber fabric covered side buttons) The sweat band is machine sewn in and made of either thin brown leather or black pebble grain. (again our choice)\u00a0 Caps are labeled for Baldwin and Randall of St. Louis, documented pre-war and wartime dealers. Note: Online listing photos of this cap show it with a bolster inserted. Our exclusive removeable “patented” bolster, which was used in wheel caps to achieve the “mushroom” look seen in period photos, especially Fraternal\/Political organization and early war images is NOT<\/strong> included<\/em><\/span> with this offering but purchased separately.<\/span> <\/em>Can be worn without the bolster as a common cap of the day, equally as well documented in photos.\u00a0Our Fraternal Political organization eagle badge is also available separately from this hat<\/span><\/em>. The badge is certainly seen in some photos on the wheel hat but is all but universally seen on the the kepi and shako. These hats are available in the indicated sizes only.\u00a0<\/em> Please<\/em> do not be assumptive, measure your head at the position you wish to wear the cap and order accordingly.
