Oil Cloth Wallet, Std Grade, D.B. Camp
$28.95
Description
This wallet is in a common wartime configuration seen in many references and features the popular mid 19c. coloring in red/maroon. (First, Mr. Marsh actually manufactures the oil cloth himself utilizing period methods, then tints the oil cloth utilizing the same period ingredients that were used in the production of mid 19th c British redcoats) The outer flap has the classic scalloped edge and slip/tounge closure. There is a slip guide on the back as well – a feature not often seen on reproductions but common on quality grade wallets of the period. Also features the classic mid 19th c. detail of finely embossed lines on the outside edge, along the folds, and the classic “X” pattern across the flat – seen on many period examples, again missing from most reproductions. Interior is lined in lightweight, yet sturdy, natural cotton. Two inner compartments. Folded it measures appr. 4″ x 6 3/4″. Label affixed inside for D.B Camp of Savannah, dealer in clothing, dry goods, rubber and waterproofed materiel. Oil cloth was a common material during the period used to keep the moisture out in products from hat covers and haversacks, to wagon bonnets and gun covers. I have inventoried many small items made of the material such as wallets, housewives, book covers, etc. An SoFS exclusive. A gorgeous looking wallet in oil cloth with fantastic period style and craftsmanship! Sometimes copied – NEVER duplicated!
