Portable Field Writing Box
Portable Field Writing Box
$37.95
Description
Updated and back in stock is our popular field writing box in a well documented design which predates the war and was in use for decades. The perfect thing for the HQ box, personal baggage, adjutants desk, etc., etc. (based on an original example in our collection) Made of dark hardwood the overall size is 2 1/4″ x 2 3/4″ x 10″ long. Includes a cobalt blue square glass inkwell with hinged silver plate cover. The top slides open and then part of the upper section swivels out to reveal a separate compartment below. Both compartments are divided to hold your pens, nibs, pencils, sealing wax, ink powders, etc. Two period plain wood pencils and a small gum eraser are included. (other pens, nibs, pencils, wax, ink powder pictured are sold separately) Nice deep compartments to hold multiple pieces. A documented pre-Civil War/Civil War era writing goods dealer’s label is affixed to the end of the box and also on the inkwell. (Ritter made a variety of such goods and also obtained a patent for a portable writing desk) Soldiers and civilians alike made this box a top seller for us for years at events, and, we are excited to continue to offer it online. Note that the inkwell lid is a hinged snap cover, not a screw lid or liquid seal. Comes with a period documented black rubber stopple to be utilized under the dome cover, but we still recommend the ink be mixed in it after arriving in the field. (not responsible for any damage due to leaked ink) A good looking box, seen featured in scenes of several different documentary, mini-series, and feature films, most recently in the Electing Lincoln and Fighting for Lincoln series on the Wide Awakes. Reported to be quite envied in camp!
