We have produced high grade museum quality reproduction matchboxes and packages for many years but, sold them so far only to museums and in the field at events. We have been aware of this type match/matchbox for some time but only recently were we able to finally, after many years, acquire an original sample, with tax stamp in unused condition to copy and re-produce. (so far the few modest attempts to re-produce them we have seen have not been consistent with the goals we have for our inventory, not meant as a criticism, just an explanation for our effort) Now new and improved to more exactly copy our original example, we have made just the the very few modifications necessary to make the item safe and practical for modern use and shipping. As in the original, our faithful reproduction is a cardstock tube design covered with a unique design blue and white marbleized paper. The friction slip top is held in place by a copy of the original label which is creased and cut to open. A.M. Pollak was a Viennese chemist who developed this product in the pre-war period and imported it to America during and after the Civil War period. Neubauer and Company was a pre-war and wartime enterprise that held a contract with his and other such companies to import goods and also operated an Express Company. It was bought out in the post war period. A facsimile of the original wartime issue Revenue Stamp and cancel is also affixed to the box.
