Dark brown wool civilian pattern notched collared vest with lightly quilted natural cotton lining and black cotton back. Marked for documented wartime and pre war maker Jno. Lewis, New York and stamped with period type clothier’s size mark. Beautiful turned original shell buttons which have a rose brown hue. Adjustment strap in back with sewn in standard two prong nickeled silver buckle. Two front pockets. A nice vest with all button holes neatly handsewn. (Note: Unlike modern American sizes which are often larger than the actual measurement indicated, the measurement from side seam to side seam at the base of the arm hole is actually 44″, there is a taper inward at the high waist to about 40″ and then back out to about 42″ at the bottom edge.) Although our clothing items have found widespread approval – uniforming and outer clothing is not our primary business and until recently we have restricted sale of such items to over the counter sales at events and at the shop, where the purchaser has the opportunity to try on the item before purchase.
