Standard Officer’s Sash, Silk, Type I

Standard Officer’s Sash, Silk, Type I

Description

Woven tube sash in silk with medium sized tassels on each end. (as with basically all modern versions – silk is man made) The regulation color for the standard officer’s sash was indicated as “crimson”, a color more associated with red in the current culture. We have examined quite a few sashes of the years and have seen almost as many shades of color as we have seen examples. Certainly many are faded – as some of the remarkably bright and well kept examples suggest, but certainly there was great variance in dye batches with the many private purchase sources available to officers. All one has to do is look at photographic displays and it is quickly evident – from deep reddish tint to nearly fuscia and purple. Bottom line is they are all basically some shade of what we commonly call “maroon” today. This shade matches several of the well kept brighter original examples we have examined and will really set off the uniform of any officer wishing to do so. Comes in a paste board box labeled for James C. Ritchie of Cincinnati, a well known dealer in military and fraternal regalia. Tassels are tied as original boxed and unissued examples we have examined Interior of box has our signature period, tissue thin, brown paper – copied after examining multiple period boxes and packaged items. Note: This is left over from our very popular event only tent stock and may or may not be re-stocked depending on demand.
