(Red-1st Div, White-2nd Div, Blue-3rd Div, etc, etc.) Backed in either white or black muslin as original examples we have examined. Edge of badge has gold bullion wire border. Certainly privately purchased and worn by soldiers of all ranks but this higher grade is often associated with officers and senior NCOs. The second plate pictured is a period publication indicating the correct badge for each Corps and Division.
