Jacob Gideon’s Ink Powder – Vermilion

Jacob Gideon’s Ink Powder – Vermilion

$3.50

Description

Each envelope holds a sufficient amount of powdered red colored ink for several 3 ounce bottles depending on the strength desired – more than enough for the smaller applications most Living Historians engage in. Vermilion was an ancient source for red color dyes and used in ink for centuries. In more contemporary years it became a simple moniker for the shade of the color red, regardless of source. Ink tablets, cakes, powders, etc. were all common place in the period as Gideon’s early nineteenth century newspaper broadside attested. Envelope is copied from original with original text and period graphics and meticulously folded as the original examples we have examined. Instructions for use are on the label. The powder is neatly tucked into an interior waxed paper envelope for protection against dampness and so you do not have to worry about spilling it all over when you open it or tainting the experience with the anachronistic zip lock baggie some vendors use.
