Description

Here is a fine genuine bone letter opener fashioned with wood handles in a common belt knife style of the period. Patterned after an original period folk art piece as is our other similar offering, possibly a soldier’s carving, the original knife facsimile was sold at auction as a letter opener. The wood handles are two piece just as a knife would have been fashioned and the double edged dagger blade is scrimshawed on one side with nice early period eagle with neck craned down and ribband in it’s mouth reading “E Pluribus Unum”. Very nice detail on the scrimshaw. Overall length is just short of  8″. (Note” Not a toy – this is a rigid sharp instrument and is intended to be utilized as a letter opener only.
