Treenware Shaving Dish (C187)
Treenware Shaving Dish (C187)

Description
Nice luster to the shellacqed finish on this turned wood lidded shaving soap dish. It has a china ceramic bowl insert to keep the soap in and lather with brush. Inside of wood bowl shows signs of hand finishing and carving with a crude period belt driven tool. The lid, which simply sits over the base, has a very nice beaded design. Interior of the lid has a nice silvered mirror inset – no chips or cracks. This is an excellent and plainly elegant example of period craftsmanship in excellent condition. Worthy of any display of the gentlemen’s kit, or officers travelling box, or dressing table. Placed one similar in much more used condition, with a leather thong wrapped around it to keep it shut in travel, in a museum display some 10-12 years ago. Quite collectible as a shaving and or toilette accessory on it’s own.
