Wostenholm Straight Razor (C372)
Wostenholm Straight Razor (C372)
$38.00
Description
One of the more prominent producers of razors in the period, Wostenholm was an old line generational 17th c. Sheffield maker known for high grade materials and expertise. Making a move to the United States in the first half of the 19th century they became synonymous with the highest quality blades available. This a fine example of their craftsmanship. The tavern pipe was Wostenholm’s makers mark and this one of their signature razors. The handle is made of buffalo horn and embossed with “THE TRUE PIPE RAZOR” in a fancy flowing ribband. Brass pins and swivel are nice and tight. The nice 3/4″ wide blade is emblazoned with the tavern pipe trademark and reads “The Original Pipe Razor, Medium Hollow Ground”. (generally speaking, the wider the blade the earlier. Although there are some more narrow period blades they are relatively rare) Reverse of blade has Wostenholm name and claims to the sole and genuine maker of the razor. Moderate rare and age spotting. Could be cleaned lightly. Good edge and no chips! Collectible as a shaving item but nice display item for the CW soldier’s or gentlemen’s kit as well, at a very reasonable price.
