A nice trimmed CDV of a lady of the period with a lovely plaid tied collar ribbon with tassels. Backmark is for “MUMPER & CO.”, Gettysburg, PA. This is Mumper’s earliest mark dating from 1864,  as he moved out of Gettysburg not long thereafter. Later he returned and using an updated mark became a somewhat prolific photographer of the area, including the battlefield, monuments, publishing stereograph cards, etc.  Nice simple stamped maker mark, nothing fancy, just the type of simple citizens item we like. When one thinks of everything that was going on in and around Gettysburg from the summer of ’63, ad infinitum, it is mind boggling. Here is a citizen lady who was in the midst of it. Just living through it.
