Thimble (A26)

Thimble (A26)

$6.00

Description

A common thimble of the period made of steel, a bit sturdier than the thinner ones offered today. Cut flat edge as opposed to the rolled type also more common in the 20th c. and beyond. Knurled edge and stippling half way up and over the cap. Nice age patina, but only a dusting of rusty hue here and there –  easily cleaned if desired. This type thimble, as well as the open ended type, have been documented in period housewives and kits and will display nicely, or put to good use. A larger man’s size – typically used on the ring finger or little finger to push the needle through while pulling with the thumb and forefinger. We buy most of these earlier types we see at reasonable prices – cannot keep them in stock. We have sold literally hundreds over the years and placed them in several museums, by themselves for sewing displays, or along with other items to finish housewives, and ladies kit displays.
