Description
The size everyone seems to want but not found nearly as often as the bigger pots. Seen in all references and many photos this is the 4-6 cup pot made in typical period style. Flat base folded up over the side, usually pounded and formed over a mandrel. Tapered body with a raised ring about 2/3 of the way up – placed for added strength and to prevent crushing. Folded soldered side seams and nice soldered curved top sheet tin spout. Pot is punched at the spout so it can strain the coffee as it is being poured. Rolled rim of pot has desirable wire insert for form which can be seen where two sides meet. Great rolled edge teardrop handle and a really wonderful lid. Lid is domed with a primitive soldered hinge attached with a wire “bar” in the top of the handle. A great little loop handle on the front of the lid with rolled edge and raised on each side, again for strength. Interior tinning is still 50-60% and the outside has a nice even gray patina. Minor surface discoloration here and there from old rust spots but no major pitting. One ding in the bottom edge where it was evidently dropped somewhere along the line. (see photo) This pot has been conserved and treated to prevent any rust damage. A very displayable and desirable coffee boiler with great character.
