Common Coat, White Cotton Drill, Notched Collar

Common Coat, White Cotton Drill, Notched Collar

Description

Common working man’s coat of the period, a subtle of an upgrade from the Sack Coat, also sometimes called a Shopkeeper’s coat. Same basic pattern as the sack coat, but with the notch collar lapels and five button front in a more condensed pattern. (as opposed to the notched collar sack coat which has four, spaced farther apart and extending lower) While the pattern is the same straight side seam of the regular sack coat, this button pattern lends itself to waist tailoring for a more formed fit if desired. (we have pictured the front views of our mannequin with a somewhat snug fitting example in order to illustrate that effect) The versatile coat is made of sturdy unbleached white cotton drill, a popular material in the period for many garment and product applications. One exterior breast pocket and two lower exterior pockets.  On this very limited run product we have placed original white porcelain shank buttons from a lot in our personal collection. All button-holes are hand sewn. Interior is lined in unbleached muslin cotton and has one inseam breast pocket. Sleeves are also lined in unbleached muslin. Plain unadorned cuffs on this “white collar” working man’s coat. Comes interior marked for any of our Northern or Southern makers who advertised as dealing in “Ready Made Clothing” and a myriad of other goods. Please indicate in notes with order or coat will be marked for Baltimore maker. No returns for markings if no preference indicated. NOTE: These coats are not sized according to modern standardized models which include “vanity inches” in the process. The actual measurement of the chest of these coats at the armpit is only 1 to 1-1/2″ greater than the chest size. Although our clothing items have found widespread approval – uniforming and outer clothing is not our primary business and until now we have restricted sale of such items to over the counter sales at events and at the shop, where the purchaser has the opportunity to try on the item before purchase. We take no orders for clothing to be made. PLEASE disregard modern sizing models when considering a purchase and instead utilize the actual garment measurements provided in the item description, against the actual measurements of your torso with the clothing on you wish the coat to fit over, prior to purchase. If you are unsure please email us with questions.
