Common Civilian Frock Coat
Common Civilian Frock Coat
$165.95
Description
Here is a coat which we have offered in the shop for many years, off and on in our online inventory. With multiple inquiries we have elected to again offer it online on a limited trial basis. We exhort you to please pay attention to the measurements of the coat in the description for the fit desired. (We recognize that such a coat is desired to look more fitted than a sack coat and that is why we elected to sell them only in the shop, where they could be tried on, for the past several years) This is the “Ready Made Clothing” example of the more formal frock coat of the period, available and popular with men of more common means than those able to afford a Tailor’s services. Today, as it was then, if you are not of an “average build” and/or after a tailor fitted and made coat – we suggest you look to that market and prepare to pay that which is customary for that item. Of course, as was also common in the day, one could compromise and also cut costs by buying the “Ready Made” version and having it subsequently tailored either professionally or at home, if desired. Classic pattern of the era with nice curved and notched lapels, a tapered waist and longer skirt. With our latest run we are also offering a version some options include an added feature of two waist pockets, complete with flaps. (These flaps can also be tucked in for a nearly unnoticeable seam slash pocket) We are offering them currently it in our fine medium gray wool, our fine dark brown wool, and the same quality black wool. Closes with four matching material tin backed buttons and sports two buttons of the same at the cuff, and the waist seam at the back pleats. All button holes are hand sewn. Lined in black cotton with one interior vertical opening pocket in the front left breast. The skirt is properly open in the middle of the back to just below the waist, so yes, you can ride in this coat. Available labeled for documented southern, western federal or northeastern wartime and pre-war makers. (please specify in comments with order as to which label is preferred or we will mark garment based upon customer’s shipping address. No returns based on label if no request made) PLEASE, disregard all modern sizing models, fit with other vendors, or past related experiences, and have someone actually measure you over any clothing you may wish to wear under this coat, then compare to the following to determine which coat to order: IF your chest is not the largest measurement of your torso and you wish to close this slightly tapered coat, order accordingly! The ACTUAL MEASUREMENT of the chest of this coat at the armpit (bottom of where sleeve attaches) is the ACTUAL chest measurement given, ie., Chest 46″ means the coat measures 46″ – we don’t know what your actual chest measurement is – only you and a select number of people in your private inner circle do! The waist measurement of the coat is taken at the waist seam where the skirt attaches. The waist tapers in from the chest measurement two inches, ie., a coat indicated as Chest 46″ would have a waist measurement of 44″. If the coat we send you measures the dimensions we have described and it does not fit you, we will accept a return for refund of the price of the coat only, when returned in unused condition, boxed and in the interior plastic bag it was sent to you in. The shipping for the return and /or any agreed to exchange items will be the customer’s responsibility.
