Standard military pattern vest with standing collar and nine button front in officer’s quality production of the popular period material white cotton drill. White cotton vests in both the military and civilian pattern were popular amongst officers, especially in the warmer climes and seasons, bedecking them with military buttons as well. This became such a common and desired practice, the Army later authorized them in regulations for such use, especially in the west and southwest. (interestingly enough, the “look” became a bit of a fashion statement as original examples suggest the procuring of white wool vests in each pattern also became a practice as well. Also seen occasionally with Southern officers kits) We have “customized” this pattern with a somewhat shorter curved front collar as seen on many private purchase and tailored/soldier modified examples. Made with two lower pockets and one breast pocket. Lined in front and back made of unbleached cotton. (IMPORTANT NOTE: Having observed an original vest of this type and color with a black cotton lining and back we elected to finish some of the vests in this run with our black cotton. Only the off-white lining is pictured – see white wool vests to see photos of this pattern vest with the black lining. If you believe you must have an off-white lining and back, please inquire before ordering to find out what was used on your desired size) Belted back with proper higher grade adjustment buckle sewn in place. All buttons are hand sewn. Closed with general service pattern Infantry “I” buttons. A quite smart looking vest! We can label these with either an eastern or western theater documented Northern maker, or also a Southern maker. (please specify in notes or we will choose. No returns for label when no choice is indicated) As with most of our garments, these vests do not provide modern vanity inches in the sizing. They are slightly tapered at the waist and made to be more fitted under the sack coat, etc., and thus have even less surplus room than the coats. The waist is further adjustable with the back belt and buckle. These vests have the actual chest measurement indicated and have a two inch taper at the waist, ie. a 44″ chest has a 42″ waist. We are happy to offer a few of these handsome vests for the officers desiring the military pattern, or the enlisted man wishing a private purchase example. PLEASE disregard modern sizing models when considering a purchase and instead utilize the actual garment measurements provided in the item description against the actual measurements you wish the clothing item to fit over prior to purchase.
