The most common collared white cotton dress shirt of the era in standard period pattern with gusseted sleeves and squared collar.  This shirt is brighter true white, also known as a “boiled” shirt during the period, due to methods to produce the clean white color for such dress shirts. It should be noted that such shirts are well documented as having made their way into military use beyond dress occasions as what was sent from home or purchased commercially from mercantile shops or sutlers were used as needed. Many officers, especially at the lower levels where they could not afford the fancier types, wore such shirts routinely. No pockets as per the original examined.  All of the button holes are handsewn. Our high-quality hand cut polished mother of pearl shell buttons throughout. Basically, the same pattern as our unbleached muslin shirts made in the same high quality cotton material as our pleated front dress shirts. We can mark these shirts for Northern or Southern makers from documented producers dealing in Citizen’s and “Ready Made Clothing”. All major seams are machine sewn as was typical. To provide a reasonably priced quality shirt with a great look and no sacrifice of authenticity is our goal. Here is the humble and most common dress shirt for your military or civilian enjoyment. This item is not pre-washed – if not washed properly in cold to warm water by hand or delicate cycle and hung dry shrinkage will likely occur. If washed properly as indicated, field tests showed very little to no shrinkage was detected) Note: As done in the day with bulk material purchases, and consistent with our commitment to better represent the diversity of period products, the material these shirts are made of may vary somewhat. (The pattern is the same) If you are looking for an identical shirt to a past purchase, new runs may not be an exact match. All are made with period correct lightweight 100% cotton regardless.
