Officer’s Sack Coat, Velvet Collar and Cuff

Officer’s Sack Coat, Velvet Collar and Cuff

Price range: $147.95 through $155.95

Description

Standard pattern falling collar on this commercial pattern wool sack coat with one exterior breast pocket and two lower exterior pockets. This one is a cut above the rest with the documented addition of the collar being done in black velvet, as well as french scalloped cuffs done in the same. Velvet trim is seen on higher end private purchase campaign coats in use by officers from company grade state regiments to hard charging general officers. (I wore one for years myself as a company grade, field grade and general officer) All button holes are hand sewn. Interior is lined in black cotton and has one inseam breast pocket. Cuffs are fully functional. The coat bears the interior stamp of documented wartime clothier John Hanford of Brooklyn, New York, who made officer’s sack coats and is also size stamped. Five button front and three button cuff – all Infantry officer’s Eagle “I” buttons.  (note this is not the extra long pattern sack coat seen in some images – the length is closer to the standard enlisted sack coat as seen in many wartime images of officers, junior and senior alike. Not as cumbersome as the longer model, and often preferred by officers serving mounted, although by no means exclusively) NOTE: These coats are not sized according to modern standardized models which often include more generous “vanity inches” in the process. Please be sure of your size requirements prior to purchase and disregard other sizing models. If you are unsure please email us with questions. We suggest you take your actual chest measurement, or the largest measurement of your torso, over the clothing items you intend to wear under the coat, and compare them to the actual measurement of the coat in the listing – then choose the coat which offers you the amount of room and fit you desire. The actual measurement of the chest of these coats is 2″ larger than the chest size indicated, ie., a “chest size 46 in.” has an actual chest measurement of about 48″, etc. The buttons can be moved to gain 1/2 to 1″. This coat has straight side seams with no fitted waist taper – it is a true “sack” coat. The sack coat was generally designed to fit much more loosely than the frock or even civilian common coat in order to facilitate movement in the field and the wearing of a vest. Some officers, not subject to fatigue duties, did prefer to have them tailored. Although our clothing items have found widespread approval – uniforming and outer clothing is not our primary business and until now we have restricted sale of such items to over the counter sales at events and at the shop, where the purchaser has the opportunity to try on the item before purchase. We take no orders for clothing to be made.
