As another example in our series of historic personal hygiene items, we have produced this great hair comb for your kit. The old American Hard Rubber Company was established in 1851 in Connecticut, then moved to NY and acquired by Conrad Poppenheusen, a man who obtained and consolidated many of the subsequent rubber companies in the pre-war, wartime, and post war periods, to become one of the largest and wealthiest producers of rubber related products. The comb itself also reflects Poppenheusen and AHRC use of Goodyear’s earlier patent of 1849. (see Woshner’s) This style and type comb is also pictured in Woshner’s excellent reference on the subject. One side reads the company name while the reverse bears the Goodyear patent mark. The comb measures 5″ long and has medium to fine teeth. Comes in a paper wrapper folded in correct period style with company label. Appropriate for either side of the line with correct pre-war markings.
