Blue Canton Flannel Shirt
Blue Canton Flannel Shirt
Price range: $55.95 through $57.95
Description
Standard pattern for the majority of period shirts, with 3 button placquard and button arrangement we have observed in multiple period photos, gusseted sleeves. We have finished this run with our popular rounded falling collar. (both pointed and rounded examples are well documented) Material is the same as our lightweight, coarse weave, brushed canton flannel white undershirts and drawers, but in rich dark blue. Full length sleeves with cuffs. A plain simple nice shirt for cooler weather and very comfortable worn over a cotton shirt for added warmth. Finished with small size general issue eagle buttons, a feature we have seen on several original examples, and a great look for a soldier wishing to make a fine impression. All button holes neatly hand sewn, body machine sewn as seen in original examples. Material is hand dyed pre-construction using period methods. We recommend washing alone, for the first time at least, by hand or using gentle machine cycles and hang drying. (as they are hand dyed using period method further washing alone may be warranted) Per customer requests, we made these color flannels for you for the cooler season. They are available only in our most often sold sizes and in very limited quantities. Please follow our standard recommendations for washing all of shirts in order to prevent shrinkage, &tc., &tc. Always use cold water – gentle cycle or by hand, and hang dry. We accept no responsibility for results from any other method than recommended. (Please Note: Due to late production as a result having to replace one of our seamstresses this is a very limited run.)
Important Note: Canton, or cotton, flannel can be prone to fraying on the cut edges of the material with repeated machine washing. To prevent this and provide better durability and integrity for the garment, we applied a machine sewn interlocking blanket stitch on the cut edges of the material along the interior of the inseams on the second half of our run of drawers and undershirts in the same color blue thread. Depending on the inventory of the size you order you may or may not receive a garment with this stitching. This stitch closely resembles machine stitching that was available during the period and also mimics hand stitching that was in use well before the period. (the machine developed to do this specific stitch which is now used was first patented in Europe before or during the war and in the immediate postwar period in the US) If this is a feature which you find unacceptable for some reason, please do not order this item. The alternative methods of dealing with this issue by hand would result in a significantly more expensive product for our customer. The selvage can still be folded over and flat felled by hand if desired.
