Common Shirt, White Canton Flannel
Common Shirt, White Canton Flannel
Price range: $49.95 through $54.95
Description
We have again done another run of these shirts per multiple requests. Standard pattern for the majority of period shirts, with 3 button placquard and button arrangement we have observed in multiple period photos, gusseted sleeves. We have finished this run with standard squared falling collar. Material is as our medium weight, brushed canton flannel popular in the period in creamy shade of white. Full length sleeves with cuffs and two breast pockets. A very comfortable plain simple nice shirt for cooler weather and very comfortable worn over a cotton shirt for added warmth. Perfect historically authentic alternative to the coarse and notoriously uncomfortable issue shirt. Sports our high quality polished bone dish buttons. All button holes neatly hand sewn, body machine sewn as seen in original examples. They are available only in our most often sold sizes and in very limited quantities. Please follow our standard recommendations for washing all of shirts in order to prevent shrinkage, &tc., &tc. Always use cold water – gentle cycle or by hand, and hang dry. We accept no responsibility for results from any other method than recommended. VERY LIMITED RUN DUE TO AVAILABILITY OF MATERIAL!
Important Note: Canton, or cotton, flannel can be prone to fraying on the cut edges of the material with repeated machine washing. To prevent this and provide better durability and integrity for the garment, we sometimes apply a machine sewn interlocking blanket stitch on the cut edges of the material along the interior of the inseams. Depending on the particular inventory run, you may or may not receive a garment with this stitching. This stitch closely resembles machine stitching that was available during the period and also mimics hand stitching that was in use well before the period. (the machine developed to do this specific stitch which is now used was first patented in Europe before or during the war and in the immediate postwar period in the US) If this is a feature which you find unacceptable for some reason, please do not order this item. The alternative methods of dealing with this issue by hand would result in a significantly more expensive product for our customer. The selvage with the stitching can still be folded over and flat felled by hand if desired to be concealed, or simply trimmed off and either left or flat felled.
