Candles are back! First, let us say that we pulled all of our candles off the website a couple of months ago because through the thoughtful response of valued customers, it was discovered that our previous batch of candles had issues with the faulty wicks and shafts not melting uniformly. As a result, we terminated our business relationship with that supplier. (We have tested the candles from our new supplier and the issues seemed to have been resolved) If you received any of these candles from us and found them to be thus unsatisfactory as described, please let us know and we will refund the purchase price of that candle order with any order of our new listing.  Our latest offering comes in two sizes. The 5″ candles are designed to be used in the smaller individual field and folding type lanterns and the 7″ candles are designed for the larger/taller field lanterns and table candlesticks. Both are 3/4″ in diameter. Packaged with our same attention to detail, labeled for documented wartime and pre-war makers and tied per our period packaging research. (Originally done by us some 25 years ago for a display project in a historic CW era home which is now developed into a public museum) Nicholas Shaeffer and Co. was a documented pre-war, wartime maker and selling agent out of Saint Louis, Missouri. He made several industry related products. Cheever and Company was a documented wartime maker and selling agent out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Both are packaged and sold in quantities typical of sutler store inventories. Some dogma purveyors would have you believe that beeswax candles are it as it relates to authenticity standards. The Army Regulations actually specified issue of Adamantine. (candles made with stearin which were less expensive, a harder finish, burned longer than tallow and looked like these!) This was the common CW era commercially manufactured candle. Go figure.

We have again been forced to limit purchases to four packages per order so that we can allow inventory to be maintained for the majority of our Living History Customers.
