Description

Here is one of our very popular items over the years which we are happy to be again able to re-stock. A versatile mid-sized plain paper hard bound book of fine ivory paper with 100+pages. Cover is about 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and about 1″ thick. Although not as handy for the pack or pocket as the smaller Diary, it is still a great size for any application, right between our Diary and larger format Sketchbook, this one could serve as either and everything in between; a journal or diary, artwork, ledger for the company/HQ books or private business, after action reports, messages, orders, correspondence, &c. Plain paper books in a myriad of sizes are by far the most common type of the period. Hard bound, in a fine classically period, cross hatch finished covering in black, same as our Plain Paper Diary and Sketchbook/Ledger. (we have made higher end items with this binding finish for years and continuously looked for it at a more economically reasonable price and are very excited to find these books for you in these classic period styles) Affixed to the front is the label, done on linen paper, for our signature stationer S.M. Ringwalt of Boiling Springs, Pa., a direct ancestor in the wartime trade and from my hometown. On the back cover is a popular period advert for a patented document carrier. Inside the covers are various combinations of ads which may include portfolio packages, writing boxes, period postage rates, travelling distances, advertising calendars. (Many of the original examples of these plain journals show evidence of having been saved and used over many years and with multiple users – thus we have chosen an advertising calendar from 1859-60 in order to make it appropriate for use at events depicting any of the war years) These were common adverts and references found pasted in such journals, diaries, and other utility books of the period. We vary the combinations of these ads periodically consistent with our commitment to provide a more diverse representation of the exploding material culture of the period for the Living History community. As a result, stock photos of the interiors labels may or may not be exactly the same, or in the same position in the book as what you receive. A great addition to our collection!
