Small/Lap Desk Inkwell with Hinged Cover
Small/Lap Desk Inkwell with Hinged Cover

Description
These inkwells are blown in the mold mid 19th c. type construction which measure about 1 3/4″ across the base and a bit under 2″ in height. They are short with a heavy base and are equally appropriate for stand alone use or fitted into the lap desk and now come with our own documented Stationers label. They fit most all of the many original lap desks we have handled over the years and are clear glass as most originals found in the desks we have examined are. It is hard to find replacement wells for these desks as most are simply too big and the far majority are found with the inkwell missing. The silver plated hinged covers are made to protect from spillage and protect a stopple, not provide an actual seal. They are intended to be used with a short cork or rubber stopple underneath if further sealing is desired for service beyond desk top use or when travelling. (our Goodyear patent stopple included, however, SoFS does not accept any liability for staining to clothing or other items as a result of use of this item. We recommend you test the process before use and understand stopples can still become loose with physical jarring and time. Such was the technology of the time) These inkwells are mass produced as they were in the day, and have some small variances. The square mold size is consistent – the neck and lid, while completely functional, may list slightly to a side, as seen in the photos. (this commonly seen in original inkwells also – as the glass neck hardens there is some settling in the mass production product) Due to the popularity we have decided to re-stock this item after our 150th anniversary field sutlery effort surplus was depleted.
