This is the consummate campaign scarf, an item which we have sold in the field and in the shop for many years, and are again happy to offer as part of our online inventory. Cut from period type and styles of wool blankets, this is a great period correct alternative to the woven wool yarn or knit scarf of the era.  Provided to soldiers in the field by aid and relief societies and sold by sutler’s and merchants as well, or sent from home as a less expensive scarf in an era where little was allowed to go to waste. (even occasionally soldier fashioned with “dead” blankets) Blanket factories and woolen mills made factory seconds and items which did not pass inspection available for various uses and damaged and used goods were marketed by the government. Cut blanket scarves were made up by aid societies with purchased and donated goods, sold by opportunistic entrepreneurs, and established factories sold such items directly as well. We generally produce them in several blanket colors, hand cut from our wool and shoddy blanket line. (these are not used blankets) Different colors are available intermittently.  (the choices listed in the order section will be what we currently have in stock) They measure 10″ wide and length averages about 65-66″. Plenty of square inches to cover the head and wrap around the neck. The ends are woven selvage and the length edges are raw cut and then top stitched the length on both sides, 1/4 inch in from the edge, to prevent fraying. Consistent with our commitment to presenting the most authentic wartime production of this product, there may be an occasional very minor weave anomaly evident on these scarves. Each scarf comes rolled and wrapped with a paper band, with either a Northern or Southern mill label and a period Relief Society seal appropriate to the label.  (Please indicate desired label in comments, if not specified we will choose.
