Description

This is one of our many labels for period boxed matches which we vary from time to time in order to better represent the diversity that should be present in a proper representation of the vast material culture of the period. (PLEASE! –  LIMIT QUANTITIES ORDERED TO PERSONAL INDIVIDUAL USE –  1-3 Boxes – we will be making more and again offering ten box bricks in the future – but for now please be fair to your fellow Living History practitioners – no bulk purchases, and of course, none sold intended for re-sale!) A documented label and maker from the Civil War era. Nearly all of the smaller vintage match boxes of the period we have examined were made of very thin blue tissue paper covered wood, with the “drawer” either the same or made of folded cardstock. Such is the one we found with the original Beecher label. In addition, strikers were a separately applied solid black material, not the telltale honeycomb printed on modern cardstock boxes sold by many sutlers today. (not a criticism, just a factual observation) Our box is made of thin wood with the blue thin tissue paper cover and applied solid black striker. The drawer is folded cardstock. Previously we sold these only to museums and at events due to the following shipping restrictions. PLEASE NOTE: Due to Federal Postal Regulation  this item MUST BE SHIPPED by Priority  Mail designated as “Ground Transport Only”. Due to USPS distribution hub policies and in house delays in processing at each facility, the current shipping time is 10 days to two weeks regardless of destination. If you must have other items in your order more quickly please order matches separately. We apologize for any inconvenience but we must comply with this rule. (This rule applies to all safety matches – restriction prohibits USPS transport of friction matches altogether. As a result our Barber Friction Matches are unfortunately no longer available on our website) PLEASE LIMIT  QUANTITIES ORDERED TO PERSONAL INDIVIDUAL USE, ie. 1-3 boxes. Thanks!
