Description

Sterling Silver small 19th century Catholic pendant portraying The Miraculous Madonna. Nice cut out design with some patina and light wear. Seen in multiple references and often dug at documented sites. (pictured in CWCE , two pieces with same motif pictured in CWA by Crouch – one dug and documented to a Confederate campsite in Louisiana) This medal was approved in 1836 commemorating a witnessed event in 1830. Inscription around the Madonna reads “O MARY CONCEIVED WITHOUT SIN PRAY FOR US WHO HAVE RECOURSE TO THEE”. Reverse has symbols for various aspects of the faith including Jesus, Mary, and the twelve Apostles. It is also marked “STERLING” on the reverse. Nice vintage silver pendant for a necklace and also seen in use on a CW veteran’s watch chain. Will fit well amid any display of soldier’s personal items.
