Description

Classic CW piece which belongs in every collection and display. This was the most common configuration of matches during the period, sold in bulk, documented in all resources. Each wood strip had 17 matches, complete. Tiny little heads, smaller than the shaft, unmarked. A soldier simply broke one off for use. Listing is for one complete 17 match strip each.(DCA $45.00) (Note: in recent years quantities of match strips have come on the market stamped with a tiny “U.S” and various CW dates. In discussion with many collectors, historians, and museums it is likely that, while the matches may be real, these markings are likely bogus, added to try to enhance value. These matches originally came in bulk packages, five strips to a paper wrapped sub packet. The Govt did not make them and it is very unlikely that the time would have been taken to individually stamp such a consumable product. If anyone can document otherwise I am all ears! No offense intended toward any dealer who currently may have been taken as well, they are still valuable and can be turned over for display)
