Base is solid and stamped on the bottom with the number “5”. Fits snug when extended, stretched out like many pieces are with heavy use. Tin case only hints of powdery surface rust visible at seams and will easily clean. Gray with age on outside with 98% of tinning worn to gray metal. Interior retains 40% tinning visible on surface. Typical CW era construction with flat side seam, flat base, not crimped, and shallow pressed tin lid.
