Description
Here is couple of relic artifacts, one of which is considered a relatively rare find. Any relic item with writing or specific dates is considered very collectible and here is a quintessential personal item, being Goodyear’s patent dated cootie comb. To find any dug hard rubber item is a real privilege. The Minie ball appears to be a standard .58 caliber type – I do not profess any expertise in this area of collecting – preferring to specialize in personal items as you know. Found in camp area next to Meade’s HQ. Comes in a small Ryker board for protection. Note on our Battlefield Pick-up and Dug Artifacts: Members of our family, on both mine and my wife’s side, have lived within a 25 mile circle of Gettysburg, including in the town proper and portions of the known battlefield and camp areas, since the second half of the 18th century. During periods of time in this span, including the turn and early portions of the 20th Century, family members were also associated with businesses that dealt with artifacts and antiquities with direct provenance to the Gettysburg battlefield and camp areas, and traded with other collectors with artifacts from other campaigns. A significant number of ancestors fought at Gettysburg with several named on monuments and buried prominently in local cemeteries. The majority of our collection of Gettysburg and other relics are from several generations of single families and related persons in the area, including our own and others, spanning from the time of the battle to roughly the 1960s. Some personal and catalog documentation may be available. The Gettysburg provenance is direct and attestable, due to the practices of the earlier times of discovery, most of the specific geographical documentation is general.
