Gray Wool Knit Scarf

Gray Wool Knit Scarf

$11.95

Description

This is a high quality scarf made of commercially knit wool. The color is a very nice medium cadet gray. PLEASE NOTE: WE ONLY HAVE THIS SCARF WITHOUT THE STRIPE LEFT IN STOCK. Commercially knit goods are extremely under represented in the Living History venue. They were common in the era and sold in all quarters. A very significant number of issue undershirts were knit, but due to a myriad of difficulties in properly reproducing them and their relative lack of acceptance in the community, few are being produced today. Knit clothing items in the era that were produced by commercial makers include drawers, shirts, socks, sweaters, gloves and scarves. (there should really be more sweaters worn in the field!) This scarf is very versatile, measuring relaxed at appr. 44″ long and 11-12″ wide. As in all knit goods, especially commercially produced close knit garments, they have an “elastic” property. The finely knit ribs run length wise so the width can be stretched easily to about 18″, the length will still stretch to almost 50″. This allows one to use the scarf to very comfortably wrap the face, put over the top of the head covering the ears and the back of the head and neck, etc. The closeness of the knit makes for a soft and warm result, weighing in at just under 1/2 pound. We were able to purchase a small quantity of these period appropriate wool scarves at a very reasonable price and are excited to offer this quality item for your winter campaign comfort – at a significantly competitive price so you don’t have to break the bank for a decent winter kit. Priced for you at a third of retail!
