Green River Knife and Fork (B366)

Famous Civil War and pre-war maker J. Russel, Green River Works, high grade four tyne fork with hard rubber handles. High grate steel. Contrary to popular belief mid 19th C. Forks were not exclusively three tyned. The number of tynes on a fork were related to grade and cost. Three tynes being the most common and economical grade of the period. (with the development of new manufacturing methods making it as economical as the earlier two tyned style) Some pitting and discoloration from age on knife blade but overall serviceable and maker mark readable. Relatively rare and highly collectable. (Retail value $80.00)
