India Rubber and Gutta Percha Works Comb
India Rubber and Gutta Percha Works Comb
$9.95
Description
In response to many requests we have produced several combs marked with documented wartime makers and dates. Each one of these combs, made in a documented period size and style, bears the mark of London wartime maker “India Rubber & Gutta Percha Works, Ltd., Est’d 1850”. The comb comes in a facsimile period style wrapper with label bearing the name of the larger company, including the designation as a maker of telegraph related goods. (telegraph wire was also produced coated with various related substances) Southern hard rubber producers were very rare, but British makers continued to be active. At least two large shipments of hard rubber combs are listed in the manifests of ships cargo that successfully ran the wartime blockade and made it to Southern ports from England. No doubt countless others did as well. Of course, this item is also quite appropriate for the men of the Northern states as their trade and import continued, uninterrupted. This maker is also documented as having exported to the North as well as nearly all international UK posessions. Comb measures 5″ long and has medium to fine teeth.
