Oil Cloth Diary
Oil Cloth Diary
$38.95
Description
Design copied from several original examples in our inventory is this fine oil cloth covered diary/journal. The cover is made of the muted finish type blue oil cloth with the classic slip and scalloped tongue closure found on many such note books, Testaments, manuals, etc from the period. We have endeavored to make this the most versatile example we could for your long term use and convenience. While name brand published and permanently bound diaries, with fully printed pages were produced in quantity during the war – the majority of examples we have inventoried, and I believe in actual wartime use, were blank plain and ruled paper “notebooks” which could be used for any application. In addition, many period example had removable fillers, some even tucked in only one side of the cover, or simply held in with a string down the center. Thus we chose to fill our example with the same blank paper allowing you to use it as you please. The pages are actually a 32 page period type stitched covered “book” which tucks securely in both sides of the cover and yet can be removed and replaced when full or from event to event application. (information for refill is included with purchase) When opened, it is not immediately apparent that it is not bound in permanently. Inside the diary one finds a year long “alamanac” calendar for the wartime year, a standard period postage rate indicator, and travel distances, commonly included in period pieces, all taken from originals in our inventory. The front flap is pressed and gold embossed with the word “DIARY” in a fancy border design, copied from one of our original examples. We have purposely not placed the year on the outside of the cover so it remains appropriate for use at any event. We are very excited to offer this latest production item made exclusively for us by the renowned Mr. Marsh. All are currently 1862 interiors for the 150th anniversary and, if they prove popular enough to warrant further production, will progress each year thereafter. New “alamanc” calendar years will be available and can be pasted over existing ones which are affixed to the inside of the cover. (Note: The cover on these booklets does somewhat crease on the surface with use where the tongue bends into the slip. This is seen on ALL of the originals we have handled, even the most mint condition examples – many used examples are either torn through or even missing. We have actually made the tongue better here than most of the originals with more re-enforced pliable materials and while some authentic wrinkling will be evident on the surface, the cover should still last for many years of use without breakage through)
