Description
A common deck of cards, the simple type most soldiers who played employed. The fancy themed and patriotic boxed decks are fine, just not the most commonly carried by the simple soldier and citizen. John Levy was a stationer who went into the playing card business in the mid 1850s. The decks are typical mid 18th century square cut cardstock with no numbers or letters. The ace of spades bears the simple stamp of the maker’s name and place of manufacture. Each individual deck is wrapped and sealed in simple paper wrapper, just as most common cards of the period were. Comes in blue or red back design and label. We shelf them packaged in “bricks” of four decks, just as they were originally, and a purchase of four decks of the same color will be delivered in the larger outside brick wrapper.
