Copied from a very well worn original American Bible Society Testament dated 1861 and identified as carried by a Civil War soldier during the war. (KJV) The cover is black oil cloth covered heavy cardstock and is pressed with the exact same pattern, on both sides and the spine, as in our original example. The spine has the gold embossed title of “TESTAMENT”. (the gold lettering on the spine is done with period methods and as a result may not always have the definition attained with modern methods) This a true pocket Testament measuring the exact same dimensions as our original example, 3″ x 4-1/2″. As in our original the pages are square cut and gold edged. The text is very crisp and clearly readable. This was a period production which was not as fancy as many for sure, but just a cut above the least expensive of features available. The words of Christ are printed in a muted 19th c. color red and bold and italic print is also utilized for certain emphasis. There is a reproduction disclaimer printed in the very back to prevent fraud due to our very meticulous attention to detail.
This is the initial run offering of our new pocket Testament effort. We believe the quality to be on par, even superior, when compared to our previous very well received production. As some of you may know, our previous source which we partnered in funding, stopped making them, then stopped even responding to our inquiries requesting access to the materials developed to renew production on our own. It has been VERY difficult to find a source which will print in the correct proper size format for the period pocket version without a purchase larger, and at a much higher price, than the current market will bear. It is impossible to find anyone who can or will do the covers in the manner we desire other than ourselves. (we embossed the covers of our previous offering ourselves as well) THESE TESTAMENTS ARE COMPLETELY HAND COVERED AND THE COVERS ARE COMPLETELY HANDMADE FROM SCRATCH. They are individually hand pressed and bound using traditional mid 19th century methods by our own Mr. Marsh with specially made pressing plates. The finish product is not mass produced. As a result, the inventory is somewhat limited and we respectfully request that purchases be made by and for individuals desiring a personal copy. Please restrict any multiple purchases to buying on behalf of specific others.
