Sauce Bottle (C285)

Sauce Bottle (C285)
$8.95
Description
Clip top style aqua sauce bottle, typical of mass produced bottles both domestic and imported, although many more of this type came from the UK in the period. The jagged edge at the mouth is not broken or damaged it is how the glass was separated from the blow tube. Blown in a hinge mold and embossed by inserting slug plates inside the mold. Simple cathedral type “windows” on four equal sides, one is plain, one reads “SAUCE” – the contents, one reads “TABLE TALK” – the brand, and one reads “LEEDS” – for the glass maker. Acquired many years ago by us in PA part of a large lot we purchased – stock from a period grocery store. Excellent+ condition, sound with no cracks – nice telltale glass imperfections of the earlier craftsmanship and visible mold seams – one very minor surface chip at the base on one corner. These disposable condiment and food bottles are seen in many camp photos and in most references. Sold by merchants and sutlers in the field in droves. Getting harder to find – yet essential for the mess or sutler’s display.
