$35.00
Description
Rare internal thread stopple on this British import bottle. Marked Barrett and Elers, London. Made of “black” glass (dark green), blown in two-piece mold with slag plate raised design. Applied tooled lip with patented internal threads. Hard rubber threaded stopple with gnurled rim in place. (Almost universally missing) This innovative design was first patented in the U.S. in 1861, and previous to that in England. The motif on the bottle promotes the technology with a raised design depicting the patented stopple. This patent was one of several developed in the pre-war period search for a resealable/reusable beverage bottle. 10″ tall 3″ across base which shows evidence of a polished pontil. Relatively rare, complete, and highly collectable bottle.
