Description

This is another very rarely encountered version of this item as the slip case is made of folded steel and has a diamond shaped cross-section. They are relatively rare to find anymore in any form. The case has considerable age patina and character and may have been painted at one point. The statue is still bright, kept neatly secured in it’s case. It appears to be made of good solid pewter, possibly with a higher silver content, known during the period and marketed as “Brittania”.  Documented to all theaters, many campsites and units, and several specific soldiers, these predominantly Catholic icons were carried in the pocket or among other personal items for comfort in devotions and also believed by some to provide protection in danger. (see our reference, CWSPI, CWCE, CWRW, CWA) Priced below the even the more common versions we have seen.
