Tobacco Pouch
Tobacco Pouch
$21.95
Description
Hand made oil cloth, machine stitched tobacco pouch. Oil cloth is made of bed ticking and has a nice deep brown tone. Folds over twice with a half flap and ties closed with a brown herring bone cotton tape. The flap is embossed with the word “TOBACCO” and the interior bears the advertising label of documented wartime Baltimore dealer in tobacco and tobacco products, S. Rosenfeld. Period broadsides indicate he dealt in tobacco in all forms as well as “segar” and tobacco boxes, “segar” cases, tobacco pouches, pipes, etc. A consumable type promotional give away with certain purchases, a common practice for many vendors during the period. This is not the fancy patented well to do man’s pouch – it is the cheaply mass produced common man’s tobacco pouch. (nothing cheap about trying to locate and reproduce these rare consumable examples of the CW era material culture today! – another collaborative effort with Mr. Marsh, exclusively with SoFS) Holds about as much tobacco as common modern package of modern pipe tobacco. Pipe shown is not included.
