White Wool Blanket, Blue Stripe

White Wool Blanket, Blue Stripe

Description

Here is another of one of our latest additions to the private purchase collection. Closely copying a documented “Trade” blanket pattern and also a British military blanket of both the 18th and 19th century this cover has many applications from civilian and those associated with Native American trade, to individual private purchase and Southern and Northern state and militia military service.  80% wool and 20% shoddy. (shoddy being the period term for inferior material made of any number of sources woven together) In this case the shoddy is cotton and wool rag. Tried and proven, they hold up well under campaign and civilian field use. Sufficient quality for rigorous use and adequate for the intended purpose, yet at least a third of the price. The color scheme on this blanket is a beautiful creamy white with a woven dark blue narrow four stripe pattern across each end. A good period trade blanket look. Weighing in at 4 lbs  and measuring appr. 62″ x 80″ with raw cut ends as seen on original examples – ready for the owner to blanket stitch and further personalize or simply leave as is. (Photo may show example with blanket stitch applied) A slightly lighter blanket, great as a second blanket in winter camp, and easier to carry for milder cool transitional temps, southern climate campaigning, and even that warmer weather campaign when a blanket is still desired.
